Convert WEBP to JPG

WEBP is excellent on the web and awkward off it: plenty of desktop programs, print shops and upload forms still refuse to open one. Converting it is usually about getting a file that something else will actually accept. JPG opens in every browser, every phone gallery, every office program and every upload form there is. When a website rejects your image, JPG is almost always what it wanted instead.

A little, because a picture that has already been compressed once is being compressed again. A single conversion is not something you can see. Converting back and forth repeatedly is, so convert once and keep the result.

Transparent areas are filled with white, because JPG has no way to store them. If the transparency matters — a logo that has to sit on a coloured background, for instance — convert to PNG or WEBP instead, both of which keep it.

WEBP is Google's web image format. It does everything JPG and PNG do — lossy or lossless, with or without transparency — in roughly 25 to 35% fewer bytes, and every browser released since 2020 displays it.

The width and height in pixels stay exactly the same — only the way those pixels are stored changes, which is what changes the file size. Expect the JPG to be smaller than the WEBP in most cases. Use the Resize tool if you want to change the dimensions too.
