Convert TIFF to JPG

A TIFF is unusable on the web: browsers do not render it and the files are enormous. Converting one is how a scan or a print-ready file becomes something you can put on a page or attach to an email. JPG opens in every browser, every phone gallery, every office program and every upload form there is. When a website rejects your image, JPG is almost always what it wanted instead.

Some, yes. TIFF stores every pixel exactly and JPG does not, so the encoder discards the detail it judges least visible. On a photograph the difference is not something you can see at normal size, but it is a one-way trip — keep the TIFF if you might need to edit the picture again.

Transparent areas are filled with white, because JPG has no way to store them. If the transparency matters — a logo that has to sit on a coloured background, for instance — convert to PNG or WEBP instead, both of which keep it.

TIFF is the lossless format used for scanning, print and archiving. It keeps everything, including layers and CMYK colour, and produces very large files that no browser will display.

The width and height in pixels stay exactly the same — only the way those pixels are stored changes, which is what changes the file size. Expect the JPG to be smaller than the TIFF in most cases. Use the Resize tool if you want to change the dimensions too.
