Questions people ask

How do I crop an image to a perfect square?

Tap the 1:1 button before you drag — the crop box then holds a square shape no matter how you resize it. Square crops are what Instagram grid posts and most profile pictures use.

Does cropping reduce image quality?

No. Cropping removes pixels from the edges but never changes the pixels you keep, so the part you keep is exactly as sharp as the original. The file gets smaller because there are fewer pixels in it.

What aspect ratio should I use for social media?

Use 1:1 for an Instagram grid post, 4:5 for an Instagram portrait post, 9:16 for Stories and Reels, and 16:9 for a YouTube thumbnail or a Facebook link preview.

Can I crop an image on my phone?

Yes. The crop box is built for touch: drag anywhere inside it to move it, and drag the corner handles to resize. The handles are sized for fingers, not just mouse pointers.

How do I straighten a crooked photo?

Cropping alone cannot rotate an image. Crop tightly to hide the crooked edges, or rotate the picture in your phone gallery first and then crop here.

What is the difference between cropping and resizing?

Cropping cuts parts of the picture away and changes what you can see. Resizing keeps the whole picture and changes how many pixels it is drawn with.
