Why this runs in your browser

A password that travels across the internet can be recorded by any system it passes through. This tool never makes that trip: the generator runs in your browser using the cryptographic random number source your device already provides, and the result stays on your screen until you copy it.

Is this password generator safe to use?

Yes. The password is created inside your own browser and is never sent to us or to anyone else. There is no network request involved, so nothing can be intercepted, logged or stored. You can switch off your internet connection and it still works.

How long should a password be?

Use at least 16 characters. Length matters far more than complexity: a 16-character password drawn from letters, numbers and symbols has more possible combinations than any attacker can search through, even with specialised hardware.

What makes a password strong?

Randomness and length. A password is strong when it was generated unpredictably and is long enough that guessing every combination is impractical. Substituting "a" with "@" in a real word adds almost nothing, because password-cracking tools try those substitutions first.

Are these passwords truly random?

They use the Web Crypto API built into your browser, which is designed for cryptographic use. That is meaningfully different from the ordinary random-number function used in most scripts, whose output can be predicted if an attacker learns its starting state.

Should I use a passphrase instead?

A passphrase of four or more unrelated words is easier to type and remember, and is a good choice for the handful of passwords you must memorise. For everything stored in a password manager, a long random string is stronger for its length.

Do you store the passwords I generate?

No. We never see them. Nothing is sent to our servers, nothing is written to storage, and closing the tab discards the password permanently. Copy it before you leave the page.

Can I use the same password on more than one site?

No. Reusing a password means one breached site exposes every account sharing it. This is how most account takeovers actually happen. Generate a separate password for each site and keep them in a password manager.
