How to resize image

    Type the width you need in pixels, or drag the percentage slider to scale the whole image.

  3. Keep the shape

    Leave "Lock aspect ratio" switched on and the height fills in automatically, so nothing looks stretched.

  4. Resize and download

    Press Resize, then download the new image.

Pixels or percentage?

Use pixels when something else sets the rules — an upload form asking for 1200 pixels wide, or a print shop asking for an exact size. Use percentage when you just want the picture smaller and do not care about the exact number.

Questions people ask

How do I resize an image without stretching it?

Keep the aspect ratio locked and change only one dimension — the other adjusts to match. Stretching happens when width and height are changed by different amounts, which our lock prevents by default.

What size should a profile picture be?

A square image of 400x400 pixels works on almost every platform. Instagram displays profile pictures at 320x320, LinkedIn at 400x400, and both crop to a circle, so keep faces and logos away from the corners.

Can I make an image larger without it going blurry?

Not really. Enlarging cannot add detail that was never captured, so an upscaled image always looks softer than the original. Start from the largest version of the picture you have. We do not upscale by default for this reason.

What is the difference between resizing and compressing?

Resizing changes how many pixels the image has — its width and height. Compressing changes how many bytes those pixels take to store. Resizing to smaller dimensions also reduces file size, and doing both gives the smallest result.

What does DPI mean and should I change it?

DPI matters only for printing, where it sets the physical size of the print. For anything on a screen, only the pixel dimensions matter — a 1000-pixel-wide image is the same on screen at 72 DPI or 300 DPI.

How do I resize an image to a specific file size in KB?

Resize the dimensions first, then run the result through the Compress tool with a target size in KB. Reducing pixels then compressing gives a better-looking result than heavy compression alone.
