Quick answer
To remove the background from a PNG, upload it to ezimagetools.com and the subject is cut out automatically — no clicking around the edges. Download it with a transparent background as a PNG, or put a solid colour behind it. PNG is the natural output for a cut-out, because it is the format that can actually store the transparent area. It works best on a clear subject such as a person, a pet or a product. Free, and no account is needed.

Wait for the cut-out
The subject is found and separated automatically. It takes a few seconds.
-

Save the result. Transparent cut-outs come back as PNG, because only PNG can store them.
What a PNG is
PNG stores every pixel exactly as it was and is the common format that supports transparency. That makes it the right choice for screenshots, logos and flat graphics, and a wasteful one for photographs.
Where automatic cut-outs struggle
Anything semi-transparent or very fine is hard: wisps of hair, netting, a glass bottle, motion blur at the edge of a moving subject. If the result is not clean, a photo with more contrast between the subject and the background almost always fixes it.
Questions people ask
Can I keep the transparent background if I upload a PNG?
PNG is the natural output for a cut-out, because it is the format that can actually store the transparent area. That is why the download defaults to PNG here.
What kind of PNG photo works best?
One where the subject stands out from what is behind it — a person against a wall, a product on a plain surface, a pet on grass. Fine strands of hair, chain-link fences and glass are the hard cases for any automatic cut-out, including this one.
Do I have to click around the edges myself?
No. The subject is detected automatically and the edge is worked out for you. There is nothing to trace and no selection tool to learn.
Can I put a new background behind the subject?
Yes — pick a solid colour and it is composited behind the cut-out before you download. For a photographic backdrop, download the transparent PNG and layer it in whatever editor you already use.
Why does my download come back as a PNG?
Because a transparent area has to be stored in a format that can hold one, and PNG is the format that does it best. If you choose a solid background instead, there is no transparency to preserve and the file can stay in its original format.
Is it safe to remove backgrounds from photos online?
Yes. Your photo is processed on our server and deleted automatically within one hour. We never look at it, never share it, and never use it to train anything.
